ABOUT THIS BLOG

I'm Alyssa, and I am an aspie--a person with Asperger's Syndrome (AS), a mild form of autism. I'm a bit weirder than most people, but that's cool with me! My differences give me a unique perspective on life, and I want to share that with others.

The purpose of this blog is to increase autism/Asperger's awareness by writing on my personal experiences with AS. One rule of my blog: to post honestly and not hold back how I feel about things. However, I will do my best to keep my posts appropriate, easy to read, short, and sweet.

If you have any questions/comments for me, please use this contact form. I'd like to hear your thoughts on my posts as well. :)

I have a wide variety of hobbies. Check out some of my other stuff!

    1. I'm sorry you have felt left out. Your ASD is nothing to be ashamed of, and there are many others like you! :) If you want to connect with others, there's a lot of groups on Facebook for our people: https://www.facebook.com/notes/alyssa-huber-films-the-life-of-an-aspie/aspergers-facebook-groups-online-resources/10153310292436776

  2. I have almost all symptoms of Asperger and have been living like this my whole life, I want to know who I can talk too so they can diagnose me with ASD, or at least find out what my problem is, i feel that if I get a diagnosis I will be happier then not knowing whats wrong with me, and watching your documentary already encouraged me and made me feel that am not alone in this and also helps me accept myself.

    1. I just wrote up a basic guide on seeking diagnosis, including what kind of professionals to talk to. I hope this helps! http://life-of-an-aspie.blogspot.com/2017/05/autism-spectrum-disorder-asd-diagnosis_7.html

  3. When I saw you on youtube, the documentary, I understood that I have Aspergers. I'm getting help for the first time now, I am 34.
I also have very vivid imagination. My world is kind of steam punk/swedish 19th century, but also mystic with natives. I am returning there less and less as an adult.
When I stop fantasizing and live in the real world too much, I come to selfharm. So I was wrongly diagnosed with borderline.

Anyway, thanks a lot. You really helped me.

    1. Your world sounds amazing, try hard not to let it fade. Even if you return less, I think it's good to keep it as a part of you.
Thanks for watching my film, and I'm glad you are getting help!

  4. I want to tell you how much of an inspiration you are to me. I am 14 and have been diagnosed with Aspergers, ADHD, and SPD for just over 10 years. I have quite the imagination, and many more classic symptoms of Aspergers. My special interests are Pokemon, professional wrestling, music, and Japanese culture. I want to know if there are any online chat groups/internet communities for people with Aspergers/ASD that are not Facebook(I donot, nor do I want to create an account for it). Thanks, and have a good day!

    1. Nice to meet you! Thank you for your comment. Looks like we have a few things in common--I casually enjoy Japanese culture (food especially, and some anime) and Pokemon. It's cool that you are imaginative, too. :)

Good question about groups. I know of two so far that are outside of Facebook:
      Wrong Planet Forums: http://wrongplanet.net
      "Autism Take On": https://www.postwaves.com/posts/group/4092516432

I will add more to this resource list if I find any: https://www.facebook.com/notes/alyssa-huber-films-the-life-of-an-aspie/aspergers-resources-online-groups/10153310292436776/
(It's a FB page but you don't need an account to view it.)

  5. My name is Hailey Treadaway. I am a college student at Kennesaw State University with a major in Computational and Applied Mathematics with a minor in Applied Statistics and Data Analysis. For a simple description, analysis math with programming statistics (advance computer coding). I was diagnosed at the late age of 19 in the start of my second year of college. I was diagnosed with SPD, AS, ADD, and Auditory Processing Disorder (APD). I just want to thank you for making your video and showing other people like us that there are other people like them! I did not know anyone like me until your video showed up on the YouTube fed! I just thought I was weird and different and no one would ever understand! So thank you! Hailey
